My Therapeutic Approach

I typically use a combination of several evidence-based methods including but not limited to: Art Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).

Art Therapy blends creativity with psychology, allowing individuals to explore emotions, experiences, and identity in ways that words alone often cannot capture. Art therapy recognizes art-making as a powerful vehicle for understanding and transformation. Art provides a container for self-discovery and offers distance when emotions feel overwhelming, and connection when words fall short. Artwork can become tangible evidence of survival, growth, and possibility.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a structured, goal-oriented, and evidence-based "talk therapy" designed to help people identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors. The focus is on learning practical coping skills to manage emotions and improve quality of life.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) involves balancing the acceptance of one's experience with the need for change. It teaches that it is possible to accept oneself while simultaneously working to change dysfunctional behaviors. DBT focuses on dialectics: two things can be true at the same time. For example, “I can be independent, but also want help.” DBT balances acceptance and change, teaching four key skills: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.
